The Law Society of Alberta recently appointed four new members to the Legal Aid Alberta Board of Directors.
Jim Campbell, David Linder, KC, Randy Mitchell and Sonya von Heyking have been appointed to three-year terms.
Campbell is a senior executive whose work focuses on external affairs with government, Indigenous and industry organizations. Linder has served as executive director of the Alberta Securities Commission since 1997. Mitchell is a lawyer in the litigation and dispute resolution group at McLeod Law LLP. Von Heyking, CPA, is currently an instructor and Director with the Dhillon School of Business at the University of Lethbridge.
LAA is an independent, non-profit organization that provides affordable legal services to low-income Albertans. The directors are ambassadors for LAA and provide oversight of the organization and guidance to the leadership team.
Board Chair Ryan Callioux, KC, said he is looking forward to working with the new directors.
“It is exciting to bring on such qualified professionals to our board and I look forward to their involvement and contribution to the board and to the organization for years to come,” he said.
“I have been with the LAA Board of Directors for more than six years now and can say without reservation that over that time LAA has benefitted from an incredibly committed executive team, strong board members who have never failed to contribute their time and energy in abundance, and the excellent leadership of John Panusa.”
Callioux added that outgoing board members Michael Waite and Nancy Peck who finished their terms, made important contributions to LAA.
“I would like to thank Michael and Nancy for their valuable service and wish them the best moving forward,” he said. “Their contributions are greatly appreciated, and they will be missed.”
