Roster Update

Lawyer Portal login process is changing soon

December 1, 2023

We are writing to inform you about planned upgrades to the Legal Aid Alberta Lawyer Portal and changes to the login process.

No action is required at this time. Soon you will notice the addition of multi-factor authentication and self-service passwords on the Lawyer Portal. Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is a two-step login that adds a layer of security to your Lawyer Portal login and password by requiring:

  1. Something you know (your username and your password), plus
  2. Something you have (a physical device, like your phone)

Two-step login makes it more difficult for intruders to use your identity to access systems. Even if your password has been stolen, the second step in the login process will prevent someone malicious from logging in.

Self-service passwords mean you will no longer have to contact LAA to change your password.

When will the changes take effect?
The official change date will be shared as soon as possible. Before then, you will receive additional communication sharing LAA’s preparedness plans, which will include taking the Lawyer Portal offline for a short period. You will also receive a step-by-step training guide to help you log in for the first time. Technical support will be available if needed.

We understand that changes to familiar systems can pose challenges. We appreciate your active participation in this important initiative to enhance security.

We’re here to help.
