LAA policy updates effective June 1, 2021

After consulting with stakeholders on our roster, LAA has decided to refresh three of our seven administrative policies. These policies are one important way we translate the high-level expectations found in our Governance Agreement, Rules, and Tariff into specific practices. The changes are scheduled to take effect on June 1.

Our goal is clarity.

Just as with our new roster lawyer agreement, we aren’t radically changing our relationship with the roster or our expectations when you take a certificate. Our goal, instead, is clarity. Over the years, LAA has come to many understandings with our roster. But roster lawyers sometimes ask us: “where is that written down?” We haven’t always been able to point to a public policy that explains some long-standing expectations and practices.

You – our roster lawyers – are our most important partners delivering services to vulnerable Albertans. We owe you clear, fair, and accessible policies. These updated policies won’t answer every one of your questions about the Tariff or billing issues – realistically, there’s just too much to write down in a policy. But we think these new policies will go a long way toward making our policies more transparent and understandable.
