Family Law Assessment

Connecting clients with the right resources early, ensuring they are prepared for the family court process.

Legal Aid Alberta (LAA) provides a family law assessment to determine if the client’s matter is eligible for our assistance. We provide legal services and advice for the following family law matters:

  • Parenting
  • Guardianship
  • Child support
  • Property actions
  • Spousal support
  • Divorce

What can you expect from a Family Law Assessment?

Family Law Assessments are completed by an experienced team of lawyers and legal professionals that determines the client’s financial and service eligibility. The assessment team is also able to offer valuable legal advice to help clients understand the next steps in their case. The team also can provide referrals to the Government of Alberta’s Resolution Services as needed, ensuring clients have support from start to finish. Resolution Services can help with legal procedures, including mediation and court forms.

They support all provincial courts, providing access to legal advice and assistance for various family law matters, including family mediation and conflict intervention. Establishing the Family Law Assessment team has been an important part of our strategic priority to ensure our services are accessible and delivered appropriately to Albertans.
