Change of Counsel

Addressing breakdowns in the lawyer-client relationship by quickly appointing lawyers to minimize delays.

In addition to being highly stressful, legal matters are often complex. The relationship between clients and lawyers needs to be strong and based on trust. In some cases, that relationship is strained to the breaking point.

Recognizing this, Legal Aid Alberta allows clients to request a change of counsel. This applies in most matters – except for priority matters such as child welfare and child representation in high-conflict matters.

The ability to change counsel gives clients confidence that they receive the best representation from the right lawyer for the job.
