Client Gateway financial assessments and ADAP

Effective July 1, Alberta’s Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) program will be split into two programs: AISH and the Alberta Disability Assistance Program (ADAP).

  • AISH will continue to support Albertans with disabilities who are unable to work
  • ADAP will support Albertans with disabilities who are able to work

Individuals transitioning to ADAP will continue to receive AISH‑equivalent benefits. Over time, ADAP benefits are expected to be lower, with higher income exemptions.

LAA is updating its systems and processes to align with this change. During the transition period, ADAP clients will continue to be treated as automatically eligible for LAA, similar to AISH clients. As a reminder, all AISH and ADAP clients must still meet liquid asset eligibility criteria, with equity below $120,000.

To prepare for this change, LAA has updated Client Gateway with new fields and dropdown options on the financial information tab.

Starting July 1, Gateway users will be required to canvas financial information for ADAP recipients and complete these fields, as applicable.

We will keep you updated during the transition period if there are any changes to this automatic eligibility.

Client Gateway changes

The “Is the client on AISH” field on the financial assessment tab changed to “Is the client on AISH/ADAP.”
