Legal help at your fingertips: 4 easy resources to guide you through legal aid

Dealing with a legal issue is stressful. We understand that — especially when life is already overwhelming due to things like family violence, addiction, or mental health struggles. That’s why we’re committed to making things easier.

Every year, Legal Aid Alberta supports hundreds of thousands of Albertans navigating the justice system. To better serve individuals and families, we’ve created a few simple, easy-to-use tools on our website.

Here are four helpful resources to guide you:

  1. See if you may qualify
Take a short Online Survey to find out if you may be eligible for legal aid. You’ll answer a few quick questions about your situation, including your legal issue and financial status. It only takes a few minutes and can give you a good idea of what to expect.

  2. Step-by-step application guide
If you may qualify, our step-by-step guide walks you through the Application Process — from the moment you first get in touch with Legal Aid Alberta (whether at the courthouse or by phone) to contacting your lawyer if you’re approved. It’s all laid out in clear, simple language.

  3. Choose the right lawyer for you
Once approved, you can use our online Lawyer Directory to find a lawyer who fits your needs. Search by location, area of law, and even by language spoken.

  4. Share a concern about your experience
If something isn’t right—whether it’s about your legal bill, your lawyer, or another part of the process—you can let us know using our online client Concerns Form. We take every concern seriously and work quickly to address it.
