Effective June 1, the current combined legal issue — Oppose Temporary Guardianship Order (TGO) / Oppose Permanent Guardianship Order (PGO) — will be separated into two distinct legal issues:
- Oppose Temporary Guardianship Order (TGO)
- Oppose Permanent Guardianship Order (PGO)
Certificates will include only one of these legal issues, not both.
To help clarify how this will apply in practice:
- If there is an active TGO application and CFS changes the application to a PGO before the TGO has been heard, the lawyer may submit an authorization request to change coverage. The client does not need to reapply for separate LAA coverage.
- A new court application requires a new LAA application and certificate. For example, if a certificate is issued for a TGO and the order is granted, the client must reapply when the TGO is up for review and CFS files a new court application.
