How to deal with a rejected authorization request

September 28, 2023

At times, Legal Aid Alberta must reject an authorization request due to lack of information.  When this occurs, the comment section will outline to counsel what is missing. Counsel should then re-submit their request with all the information provided in the earlier request and add the missing data.

If seeking more clarity about the rejected authorization request or its missing part, counsel should email the Assessment Team lawyer who processed the request. Their contact details are available in the comments section.

If counsel wishes to dispute the decision, they should email a request for an administrative review to [email protected], while specifying the certificate and authorization request numbers, as well as outlining their reasons for disagreement.

A manager will then conduct the review in line with our policies and will either overturn the decision or uphold it. The manager’s ruling is final and cannot be appealed any further.

If you have questions about this process, please contact us at [email protected]. We are here to help!
