Effective immigration advocacy: Fundamentals, client management and LAA systems
Immigration roster lawyers in the first few years of practice are invited to an in-person workshop hosted by Legal Aid Alberta’s Lead Immigration Lawyer Ruth Williams, designed to build your confidence with LAA certificates and immigration advocacy.
Sign up today to attend a session in either Edmonton or Calgary — build real-world skills, pick up helpful tips and connect with peers in a supportive, relaxed setting.
Each session is limited to 20 participants and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Once a session reaches capacity, a waitlist will be available.
Edmonton workshop

Come comfortably dressed in business casual — breakfast and lunch are on us to keep you fueled throughout the session.
What to expect:
- Clear guidance on your responsibilities as roster counsel
- How to navigate the lawyer portal, bill properly, and avoid common certificate issues
- Immigration essentials: opening files, communicating with IRB and CBSA, gathering disclosure and preparing for hearings
- Interactive activities and group work using real-world scenarios, including refugee claims, detention reviews, and appeals
We’ll wrap up with a question-and-answer period and the chance to sign up for ongoing support.
