Called to the Alberta Bar in 2002, Ryan Callioux is an Edmonton-area lawyer who has dedicated his professional legal career to helping families and children.
Legal Aid Alberta is pleased to advise that its Board of Directors has appointed Ryan Callioux as the new chair of the board at its Annual General Meeting on September 15, 2020.
Called to the Alberta Bar in 2002, Callioux is an Edmonton-area lawyer who has dedicated his professional legal career to helping families and children. Practicing family law for the past 18 years, he is an experienced litigator on child welfare cases and has advised government on risk management initiatives to reduce domestic violence and enhance legal services to protect children. Callioux has been a member of the LAA Board since 2016.
Callioux said, “I am honored to serve in this new capacity and excited to be part of an organization that does so much for access to justice. LAA has continued to innovate provide necessary services during the pandemic and in the challenging times we face.”
“I look forward to working with our incoming Chair Ryan Callioux and Vice Chair Christine Hutchinson as we all continue to play a critical role in our justice system and provide unwavering access to justice for our clients,” said LAA President and CEO John Panusa. Hutchinson is an expert in Aboriginal law and has been a visiting scholar at Harvard University.
“I would like to thank outgoing Chair Deanna Steblyk for her outstanding leadership and guidance,” Panusa added. Steblyk will maintain a crucial role on the board as Chair of the Governance Committee.
Legal Aid Alberta is governed and guided by a Board of Directors appointed by the Law Society of Alberta and the Minister of Justice. The Board makes decisions that are carried out by LAA executive and management teams. The Board consists of up to six Alberta lawyers and at least five public members with diverse backgrounds.
