Legal Aid Alberta and Alberta Union of Provincial Employees sign new collective agreement

The Collective Agreement reflects our commitment to supporting employees and strengthening access to justice across Alberta.

Legal Aid Alberta (LAA) and the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) signed a new collective agreement on Jan. 30, 2026. A collective agreement is a contract between a union and an employer that sets out the basic rules for pay, benefits and working conditions for unionized employees.

This collective agreement applies to more than 100 unionized employees working across LAA’s Contact Centre, Facilities, Finance, IT and Legal Services Support teams. Their work is essential to ensuring Albertans can access the legal help they need when they need it.

The new agreement brings meaningful improvements for employees, supports LAA’s operational effectiveness and reinforces the organization’s mission. It also enhances efficiency, flexibility and long‑term sustainability.

LAA extends our sincere appreciation to the bargaining teams from both LAA and AUPE for their professionalism, dedication and collaborative approach throughout the process. With this new collective agreement in place, LAA can continue to protect Albertans’ legal rights and deliver the services they depend on.
