In Alberta, pensions are considered property and can be divided at the end of a marriage. A simple application can be made to the Canadian government to divide Canada Pension Plan (CPP) credits. Many people also have pension plans provided by their employers. The value of these pensions depends on the type of plan and some plans are quite complicated. Retirement savings, such as RRSPs, are also matrimonial property and can be divided at the end of a marriage.
