Job Description

Reporting to the Manager, Communications & Public Relations, some of the key responsibilities include:

  • Support the Director, Communications and Public Relations and the Executive Committee to achieve its overall vision and to support the communications needs of the business.
  • Provide organization-wide communications strategy and support to ensure consistent and effective communications across the organization.
  • Under the direction of the Manager, Communications and Public Relations, assist with:
    • Developing and implementing communications policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure support for organization-wide communication strategies and plans, including employee communications, lawyer relations, media, and digital strategies.
    • Developing and implementing effective communications plans to promote public awareness and understanding of LAA services.
    • Play a pivotal role in planning and executing public events.
  • Manages the ongoing development and production of communication vehicles, including promotional materials, newsletters, reports and other publications.
  • Oversees the content management and maintenance of both the external LAA website, and internal employee intranet, and any other websites associated with LAA.
  • Provides advice and input to business units on the development and implementation of communications plans to ensure consistency with LAA’s overall communications approach.
  • Lead development of communication strategies for projects and initiatives.
  • Works closely with the Government and Community Relations team in their development and implementation of Government and Stakeholder Relations plans and strategies.
  • Provides support in building and protecting LAA brand reputation.


Education and Experience:

  • A degree or diploma in communications or a related discipline from a recognized institution, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in communications or a related discipline.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with strategic planning.
  • Experience in large complex organization would be considered an asset.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of the theory and principles of planning, communications and public engagement.
  • Superior written and verbal communications skills.
  • Extensive research and writing skills, cultural and socio-economic sensitivity, objectivity and demonstrated excellence in the critical analysis of information.
  • Knowledge of Content Management Systems.
  • Experience with SharePoint and WordPress are an asset.
  • Management skills to lead, plan, organize, coordinate and complete complex, concurrent projects independently or in team environment.
  • Ability to resolve conflict and build consensus and the ability to act as a role model for communications.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to build and sustain strong client relationships within the organization, the media, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to use or gain experience in photography and videography.
  • Canadian Press Style.
  • Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Premiere/Final Cut, Photoshop, InDesign are an asset.
