Job Description

Reporting to the Director, Information Technology, the role will effectively lead the delivery of IT related services and departmental commitments to Legal Aid Alberta. This includes monitoring the effectiveness and delivery of the departmental strategic plan, IT governance, technical architecture, and the integration and interoperability of technology projects across the organization.
 
Some of the key responsibilities include:
  • Develop and maintain the Enterprise Architecture blueprint across all LAA technology offerings
  • Establishing Enterprise Architecture standards, guidelines, and procedures
  • Conduct research on emerging technologies in support of systems development efforts and recommend technologies/approaches that increase ease of use, functionality, and scalability of enterprise solutions
  • Co-lead the Enterprise Architecture Review Board (EARB), ensuring solutions are compliant with target-state architecture
  • Liaise with project teams and analysts to ensure proper translation of business requirements into IT solutions and the successful transition to operations 
  • Provide architectural consultation, education and communication to team members and project teams for proposed solutions
  • Lead the delivery of IT related projects that are highly visible across the organization and the clients served
  • Provide strategic and tactical planning, business process reengineering, project management, development, and implementation of IT projects
  • Proactively monitor project progress against integrated project plans, identifying and managing variances via the project governance structure. Document and report project status against established objectives, milestones, budget and resources and facilitate tracking and closure of issues and risks. 

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Business Commerce/Administration, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an Enterprise Architect or IT Project Manager
  • 5-7 years of project management experience
  • Experience delivering training to a wide variety of audiences and technical abilities
  • Experience with frameworks such as COBIT, TOGAF, ITIL and PMBOX will be considered as assets
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Demonstrated understanding of supporting IT services for medium to large organizations with diverse end user requirements
  • Demonstrated understanding of the system development lifecycle and related artifacts
  • Substantial exposure to business process re-engineering and business transformational projects.
  • Critical thinking skills for identifying issues and making proposals to tackle them
  • Strong business acumen, observational, analytical, and detail-oriented skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with technical and non-technical personnel
  • Thrive in an environment where change is the norm.
  • Competency in Enterprise Architecture toolsets, Microsoft on-premise and cloud software stack
