Job Description

 

Reporting to the Legal Services Manager, the key responsibilities of Criminal Trial Group Lawyer position  is  to:

  • Provide holistic legal services support to clients.
  • Resolution and negotiation with the Crown on behalf of client on criminal matters.
  • Litigate at various court levels, including appeals (travel expected).
  • Conduct assigned files to professional standards and in accordance with the Rules and Code of Conduct of the Law Society of Alberta and the policies and procedures of LAA.
  • Complete and accurate statistical, time entry, and record keeping.
  • Compliance with office policy and procedures.
  • Participate in performance and staff meetings as required.

Qualifications

 

  • Education:
    • Law degree from a recognized law school.
    • An active member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in criminal law as a Defense Lawyer.
    • Extensive experience conducting criminal Defense trials.
    • Recent Criminal Law Practice with a particular focus on Indigenous experience and issues within the criminal justice system including familiarity with Gladue reports and Indigenous support. services.
