As a publicly funded, non-profit organization, Legal Aid Alberta provides affordable legal services in family law, domestic violence, child welfare, immigration, and youth and adult criminal defense. Job Description

Reporting to the Managing Director, Legal Services North, some of the key responsibilities include:

  • Understand the connection of business and financial drivers between the legal services group and the larger organization. Support new initiatives and related change management activities and communications
  • Develop, design, implement and monitor a performance management framework for employees within legal services group
  • Participate in and support development of strategic direction, business, and departmental plans
  • Work with other business units to identify the emerging trends or issues. Provide recommendations on possible corrective or proactive actions relating to initiatives and activities of business unit and follow up as appropriate to ensure alignment with budgetary and strategic goals
  • Provide training and support to staff during onboarding, role changes, implementation and/or monitoring of internal policies and procedures
  • Work collaboratively with other Business units.
  • Support Legal Services Managers in monitoring workloads and staffing coverage
  • Development of operational best practices to unify and coordinate processes across teams and offices.
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, multitask and prioritize under pressure with minimal supervision

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum diploma in a Business, Finance, Accounting, Operation and/or related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in leadership and/or business experience with a focus on large and/or transformational change, and operations performance management
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in business analytics and financial analysis
  • Background and experience in project management may be considered an asset

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Change Management best practices and strategies
  • Familiarity with the type of work, roles and responsibilities within legal services functions is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of basic project management and organizational finance
  • A high level of comfort working with technology and a keen enthusiasm for learning new systems including, computer literacy in MS Office, web-based legal research tools, and other web-based resources.
  • Knowledge and understanding of people management theories/ principles and ability to coach others around best practices.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict management skills with the ability to resolve complex and sensitive issues, establish win-win outcomes and gain commitment from internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to provide operational support in a high pressure, work environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, facilitation, and communication skills with the ability to express ideas, recommendations, and decisions clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, in a manner appropriate to the audience.
  • Excellent analytical, logic, problem-solving, and organizational skills, as well as sound business judgment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Strong change management skills and the ability to influence the decision-making process with sound judgement and risk mitigation
  • Excellent ability to adapt and respond well to change and conflicting immediate priorities.
