Successful Lawyers Make a Difference
At LAA, we set our lawyers up for success. Becoming an LAA Roster lawyer is not only an opportunity to gain experience, but to make a difference.

It's not just about taking a certificate anymore!

Legal Aid Alberta has developed innovative ways in which the private bar can become involved in the LAA program.

Counsel Connection

The Counsel connection is the new online web community for lawyers who are, or who want to be, involved in the LAA program. It provides up-to-date information on what’s new at LAA, access to all the tools you need to be successful with your LAA clients, and news and events that are of interest to lawyers. To gain full access to the Counsel Connection you must be a member of the LAA roster.

E-bill

Legal Aid Alberta is pleased to offer roster lawyers and legal assistants a new online program that makes billing for legal aid accounts easier. The e-Bill program operates on a simplified process that ensures less time is spent billing for accounts and that payments are received sooner. e-Bill has the power to eliminate the need for tariff memorization, time-consuming paper bill processes and costly archives necessary for retaining paper records. e-Bill was custom-designed to be user-friendly, and the Taxation department will remain an important and easy-to-reach contact should further assistance be needed.

e-Bill is the tool that will make billing enjoyable!

A New and Simplified Legal Aid Alberta Tariff

Recruitment and retention of our Roster is always of vital importance and has been highlighted as a strategic priority in Legal Aid Alberta’s current strategic plan.  It is our hope that the changes to our tariff will make it easier for lawyers to do business with LAA; and those lawyers will be able to utilize/bill hours within a block to the most pertinent issues without being restricted by a compartmentalized tariff.

Travel Assist

Legal Aid Alberta (LAA) is pleased to be able to offer the TravelAssist program to make travel easier for Roster lawyers. These services allow for worry-free travel so our lawyers can focus on representing the client. LAA is actively seeking to introduce programs for lawyers that are cost-effective and convenient, by way of reducing out-of-pocket expenses, while performing work on legal aid certificates.

Partnering with existing suppliers, the LAA TravelAssist Program is able to offer lawyers the following:

  • Direct billing to LAA for flights and select hotels
  • Preferred rates at hotels with direct billing to LAA
  • Budget Rent-A-Car credit card billing directly to LAA
  • Access to LAA reservations services where your bookings are made for you!

Roster Concierge

LAA recognizes that without the support of the private bar we can not succeed. Our roster lawyers have unique needs so we have developed a Roster Concierge program to help assist in any way we can with your experience with LAA.

Our Concierge will ensure that:

  • You questions about our billing process are answered
  • You have a proper orientation to the LAA program
  • You feel supported by LAA
  • Any concerns or issues you have on your files are addressed
  • Any complaints are dealt with professionally

To contact the Concierge please email roster@legalaid.ab.ca or call (780) 422-6152

Orientation and Training

Once you sign up to be a roster lawyer you will be given access to our online orientation through the Counsel Connection. Training sessions have also been scheduled throughout the province for lawyers. View our calendar to see what sessions are happening near you.
