There are many non-profit organizations that work to promote human rights on a city, province, and national scale.  Below are some examples from Alberta.

 

The Sheldon Chumir Foundation for Ethics in Leadership

The Sheldon Chumir Foundation for Ethics in Leadership is a Calgary-based organization that has been heavily involved in the reform of the Alberta Human Rights, Citizen, and Multiculturalism Act, which is now the Alberta Human Rights Act.  The Foundation also works to promote diversity. John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights

The John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights is based in Edmonton and dedicated to human rights education.  They facilitate the Human Rights City Edmonton Project which is working to identify areas of concern in Edmonton and to create processes to deal with those areas.  For more information see: www.jhcentre.org and humanrightscity.ca.
