A: You will only violate human rights law if you discriminate based on certain factors.  Those factors are called “prohibited ground of discrimination.”

It is illegal to discriminate based on:

  • race;
  • national or ethnic origin;
  • colour;
  • religion;
  • age;
  • sex (including pregnancy or childbirth);
  • sexual orientation;
  • marital status;
  • family status;
  • physical or mental disability; and
  • convictions for which a pardon has been granted.
