A: OPD is well-suited for bills like credit card debt or student loans. During your participation in this program, you can stop the enforcement of judgments.
OPD is not well-suited to the following types of debt:
- secured debt such (e.g. vehicle loans or mortgages) because the creditor can still seize the item that was purchased with the loan;
- joint debt where the other person is not also going through the program (for the creditor would just go after the other debtor);
- arrears owed to the Maintenance Enforcement Program; or
- fines owed to the court for offenses committed
You can enter into the program for your non-secured debts, and continue to pay off your remaining secured debts on your own.
