There may be times when LAA requests information from you in relation to your assessment and/or the progress of your case.  We have developed the following templates to assist you in preparing these materials.

Appeals Letter

An appeals letter is required if you have been refused coverage and you to wish to appeal LAA’s decision.

Client Feedback Form

We are interested in hearing what you think about our services; complaints, compliments, and suggestions are all welcome and we take them seriously.  You may also send your comments to clientconcerns@legalaid.ab.ca

Pre-Authorized Withdrawl Form

This form must be completed by clients who wish to have LAA take payments out of their bank account automatically.

Request for a Change of Counsel

A change of counsel is the term used when a client is not satisfied with the service they are receiving from their lawyer and they wish to request a new lawyer to represent them for the remainder of their case.

Please be aware that a request for a change of counsel can significantly delay the progress on your file and negatively affect your case.  Changes of counsel are not automatically or always allowed.  Repeated requests for change of counsel may result in a referral to a coverage review committee, or cancellation of your legal aid coverage.

If you are disagreeing with your lawyer, always start by talking to your lawyer about the issue, advice, or instructions that you are unhappy with.  If after talking to lawyer you are still unable to agree, call LAA and ask to speak with the legal aid officer/interviewer that took your application.  The legal aid officer will listen to your concerns and try to assist you in resolving them.  You may be asked to write LAA a letter outlining the problems you have been having with your lawyer.
