Immigration Services

The Immigration Services Program assists clients in the Calgary area who need help navigating the refugee process and filing the required documentation.  Persons wishing to seek assistance from Immigration Services do not need to be a LAA client and/or meet financial eligibility guidelines.  However, if it is determined that a person accessing Immigration Services requires the assistance of lawyer, they will be directed to apply for legal aid coverage.

Immigration Services staff are available to answer questions and offer support through the claims process and can provide assistance in the following areas:

  • Preparation of Personal Information Forms (PIF’s) in partnership with Immigration lawyers
  • Referrals to agencies that provide clothing, ESL (English as a second language), Social Assistance, along with other basic necessities.
  • Completing work permit application and various other documentation
  • Arranging for qualified translators to translate documents relevant to the claim and interpreters to attend interviews with lawyers and/or Immigration Services staff.
  • Post hearing support; assistance with Permanent Residence Applications and initial documentation.
  • Information and referrals for family class applications, visa extensions, and admissibility issues.

The Immigration Services Program is located at the Calgary Regional Office of Legal Aid Alberta: Appointments are recommended; however walk-in’s are welcome if the matter is not complex and/or time consuming.
